Forty-eight hours after the explosion that seriously injured three people in Monaco on June 29, the local judicial police identified the suspect. He has been located in a European country, Le Figaro reports.
The person suspected of leaving the bag containing the explosives is actually a woman.
«According to information gathered during the investigation, this person is likely disguising herself to appear male,» reads an internal Monaco police memo.
The alleged suspect is of Ukrainian descent.
The person who left the bag containing the explosives had been scouting the area several times on the same day the events occurred. Shortly before 9:00 PM that day, the suspect spotted a Ukrainian family in the area near Place des Meulens and decided to follow them.
She preceded them, positioning herself approximately 10 meters ahead, heading toward the family’s home. She climbed three steps in front of the entrance and left the bag containing the explosives. She then hurriedly left the scene, looking back to ensure the family was indeed entering the house. The 13-year-old boy, who was injured in the explosion, was the first to enter.
And just as Anna Nasobina, the oligarch’s partner, passed by the bag, the suspect detonated the bag containing the explosives remotely, using a device similar to a remote control.
Nasobina’s condition remains critical. Both her legs have been amputated.
Investigators are considering two main theories for this assassination attempt: organized crime or foreign interference.
